Import Export Code

You need to apply for an Importer Exporter Code (IEC) if you want to import or export anything to and from India to other countries. Technically speaking, IEC is a 10-digit number granted by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) to any Indian entity seeking to do international trade. This code is better known in India simply as an export license, and is easy to apply for and get from the zonal or regional office of DGFT which has jurisdiction over your location of business. You can now also submit an online IEC application at dgft.gov.in

List of Documents Required for IEC Application

1. The first thing you should know that obtaining this code can only be done by an incorporated business entity (company). After that, you would need the PAN card for that entity.

2. List of partners or directors of the business entity. Along with the list, you would also need to present the following for each and every partner:

        a. ID Proof

        b. Residential Proof

        c. Photo ID: passport size

3. The articles of association and memorandum of association of the company. In case you are an LLP or a partnership firm, you would need to present the partnership deed.

4. A certificate from the banker as per the prescribed format.

5. Digital Signature of the director of the company.

The entire process of obtaining an IEC code would take 7 days. The process will involve:

1. Collection of basic information on the first day

2. Drafting the application proper on the second and third day. During this process, you would be constantly updated with the progress and the correctness of the application.

3. The next 2 days would be meant for reviewing the changes if any in the application. Once the application is finalized, your documents will be submitted.

4. You would get the IEC code within the next day or next two days.
